Sir:-
With reference to your letter No.35106/1903 of the 26th ultimo, relative to the murder of Yeung Kui Wen at Hongkong, I am directed by the Marquess of Lansdowne to state to you, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that he concurs in the recommendation contained in your letter No.26982 of July 31st that pressure should, as suggested by the Governor of Hongkong, be put on the Chinese Government to dismiss the Acting Viceroy Tak and the Chief of Police Li Ka Chenk from the Public Service, and that compensation to the amount of Fifty thousand dollars be paid by the Canton Government to the widow and family of Yeung Kui Wen.
A despatch, of which a copy is enclosed, has accordingly been addressed in that sense to His Majesty's
